The important painter of seascapes, Simon de Vlieger, is regarded as a source of inspiration to the painter Van Diest in the book 'Haagse Schilders' (HS120). Two other sources are mentioned, Jan Porcellis and Jan van Goyen.

Simon de Vlieger could well be related to his sources of inspiration Jan van Goyen and Jan Porcellis, because in the family tree, a certain Jannetje Jans de Vlieger can be found, who wasn't only Arend Jans van Goyen's spouse, but remarried Arend Frederiksz van Egmond.
The van Egmond family was close to the van Goyen/Steen/Porcellis-families (CBG).
It is probable that the seascape painter Simon de Vlieger and Jannetje Jans de Vlieger were related, what would make Simon de Vlieger a family-member.
