The relation between the d'Hondecoeter family and the de Hoogh/Barnards family isn't 100% certain, despite the fact that the two families were so close that it is justified to mention them in this presentation.
- Melchior d'Hondecoeter signs the will of Gerrit de Hooch, Anna van Eyck's husband, in 1660.
- The rare name 'Melchior' is found both with the d'Hondecoeter family as with the Barnard family.
- The less rare name Josina is found both with the d'Hondecoeter family as with the De Hoogh family.
- The two artistic families Barnards et Hondecoeter, lived in Utrecht and moved to The Hague around the same time.
- The publication 'Biografisch woordenboek van A.J. van der Aa, (Haarlem 1876)' mentions about Jan Weenix, a person close to the d'Hondecoeter family, that four of his portraits belonged to the Westreenen family at Utrecht. The first wife of Louis Hendrik Barnards was a Van Westreene.
- Melchior d'Hondecoeter possessed a vast collection of animal paintings by the flemish painter Frans Snijders (HS168-169). Louis Hendrik Barnaarts' seconds spouse was named Katharina Snijders.
